2.11.3 Glycosidal Resins
The Jalap and Scammony are the two well known examples of the glycosidal resins occurring in the natural products, namely: Jalap—from the dried tuberous root of Exogonium purga (Hayne) Lindl. (E. jalap Baill., Ipomea purga Hayne), belonging to family Convolvulaceae; Scammony—from the dried roots of Convulvulus scammonia L., belonging to family Convolvulaceae. The glycosidal nature of these resins are evidenced by the presence of sugars, such as glucose, rhamnose and fucose on hydrolysis.
